Well I am happy to report my good mate Donna has forgiven my lack of enthusiasm about native plants! She has been kind enough to suggest a few other ideas for our new garden:
Autumn Joy
Pear trees
Euphorbias
I am seriously liking. Although I will admit it is daunting to go in a different direction to that of a dedicated gardener! Keep the ideas coming, Donna (and other mates!)
I haven't thought too far into plants for our garden, but my Mum has a gorgeous Japanese Maple and I'd like to find a spot for one of these in our garden!
Have you considered hiring a landscape designer? My inlays hired one in their last house, and they went through what plants they liked (hedges, lilly pilly, ornamental pears) and then made a plan for them of what to plant where. From memory it wasn't over expensive (as they did all the planing themselves) and they found their person through the local nursery. The benefit of hiring someone was that some of the plants my MIL wanted wouldn't have suited the house or the area (topical type plants) so she didn't waste her money on something that would have died.
Amy, I love those ideas! That Autumn Joy en masse would be spectacular. Love the pear tree - I also love the cherry blossom, such a pretty tree when in flower. Never seen the Euphorbias before (wonder if they only grow down south?). Could imagine that flowing over the top of a rockery <3. Keep the gardening ideas coming! Suz
